Solstice Intentions: A Guide to Letting the Light In

A midsummer ritual for the tired, the tender, and the slightly feral

The light has been working overtime. She’s stretched thin and golden, hanging on by a thread, draped across the dock, the dinner table, your bare shoulders. Today — the Solstice — is her high note. The longest day. The great inhale.

You don’t have to “celebrate” it. No flower crowns required. But you can mark it. Softly. Quietly. In whatever way feels like a “yes.”

Here’s a little nudge — a not-too-precious ritual you can actually do, whether you’re lakeside, city-bound, or barefoot in your own overgrown backyard.

1. Go Outside

Not for steps. Not for content. Just… go. Notice what’s blooming. What’s buzzing. What’s warming. Let your feet touch something real. Grass. Sand. Wood. Dirt. Yourself.

2. Light Something

A candle. A match. A fire pit if you’re lucky. People have been lighting things on the Solstice forever. There’s something about fire that makes things feel official.

3. Ask Yourself Something Brave

Not “What’s my five-year plan?”

Try:

•What’s actually working?

•What’s done?

•What am I growing — on purpose or by accident?

Maybe write it down? Or don’t. Just ask. And then be sure to listen.

4. Offer Something Up

An apology. A handful of herbs. The last piece of rhubarb pie. Doesn’t matter what. Just give something back. It’s a good practice — and it shifts the energy every time.

5. Move. A Little or a Lot.

Stretch. Dance. Paddle. Roll around in the grass. Let your body remember it’s allowed to feel good.

6. Eat Something Beautiful

Whatever’s ripe. Whatever feels nourishing. Slice strawberries. Grill something over fire. Pour something cold. Let this be a feast of gratitude — for the land, for the light, for the now.

7. Stay a Little Longer

The sun is in no rush. Neither are you. Let the light linger on your skin. Let dusk settle. Let the moon rise. You don’t need to do it all. You don’t need to post it. Just mark the moment. Let it hold you.

That’s it. That’s the ritual.

Happy Solstice, Sweetheart.

Go be golden. ✨
